Patterson, 82, of Greenville, passed away late Sunday morning, Aug. 3, 2003, at Quality Foster Care Home, Greenville. The son of Merslo and Elizabeth Bowen Patterson, he was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Jackson. On May 2, 1942, in Grand Rapids, he married Lucille E. Anderson. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific theater and was a member of the American Legion Post in Belding. Bill retired from Greenville Public Schools where he had worked in maintenance. He enjoyed camping and traveling and was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters, Susan Elizabeth and Joy Theresa; two brothers, Jack and M.J.; and two sisters, Jean and Catherine. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lucille E. Patterson; three sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen W. Patterson of Greenville, David E. and Marta Patterson of Trufant, Michael J. Patterson of Greenville; sister Wilamae Cullinane of Grand Rapids; two step-granddaughters, Kasey and Amy; for great-grandchildren are Aubriana, Vincent, Gage and Braiden; and several nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Father Phil Salmonowicz officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Belding, with military honors rendered by the Belding American Legion Post.
