Jack was born in Gratiot County's North Shade Township on June 21, 1926. He was the son of Timothy and Vera (Proctor) Patton. During World War II he joined the U.S. Navy, flying missions in both the Atlantic and Pacific. After the war he went to work for Consumers Power. He married Phyllis Egan on July 23, 1949, and they just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. He was the owner of Green Acres Sod Farm and was Easton Township Trustee for 19 years. Jack also volunteered as a diver for the Ionia County Commission on Aging, and was a Life Member of the VFW. His favorite activities were hunting and fishing. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Tim Patton. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Patton of Easton Township; sons, Bruce (Ann) Paton of Manakin-Sabot, Va., Joe (June) Patton of Cedarville, and Bill (Patti) Patton of Easton Township; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, with Rev. Thomas Boufford presiding. Rite of Committal will take place in Easton Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lehman Funeral Homes, 220 Rich St., Ionia. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to Ionia Area Hospice, in memory of Jack.
