September 9, 2025 Excerpts from Ionia Obituary JAMES TIMOTHY PATTON Died September 8, 2025-age 80 of Ionia. Born May 26, 1945 in St.Johns,MI, son of Elmo J & Bernice (MacLaren) Patton. Jim attended Ionia Public Schools, graduated with the class of 1963, He joined the Army in 1963m, serving during the Vietnam War. Jim married Rosalie Ann Calkins 62 years ago on March 15, 1963. Together they built a home filled with laughter, love & resilience, raising three daughters who carry forward his spirit & warmth. After leaving the Army in 1966, he spent 30 years working at Oldsmobile (General Motors) in Lansing, retiring in 1996. Jim was a member of the Ionia Moose Lodge & Ionia Jaycees. He was a avid golfer, that passion took root at age 12 when he began collecting golf balls from the local course & selling them back to the players. The love of the game of golf led him across the Atlantic to play on the storied courses of Scotland. Jim also enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, throwing washers, horseshoes, softball & playing cards & cribbage. After retirement he & Rosie spent 20 winters in Mississippi along the Gulf Coast, enjoying travels to surrounding area & creating new friendships. Survived by his wife Rosalie Patton of Ionia, daughters Kimberlie (Rick) Poole of Ionia, Kristie (Tom) Ferguson of Ohio & Karalie "Karie" Perrien of Saranac. Grandchildren, Kassondra Bennett, Katherine (Marcus)Lemke, Russell (Ashley) Denker, Evan (Allison) Poole, Sarah (Trinity) Esquivel, Thomas "TJ" (Elaine) Ferguson, Kayla (Brad) Hizer, Kera (Cory) Johnson, Karlie Ferguson & Daniel Ferguson, 18 great-grandchildren, sisters, Nancy Williams (husband Prosenjit RaiChoudhury)of Montague & Jeanne (Randy) Curtis of Ionia., Brother-in-law, Robert Calkins of Ionia & sister-in-law, Bette Rynearson of Lansing, & many nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by son-in-law, Edward Perrien, sisters, Marta Patton, Connie Hofer, Kathy Miles, sisters-in-law, Shirley Calkins Bush & Susan "Sue" Calkins. The family would like to thank Dr. Carsem & his team at Ann Arbor VA Hospital for the last 8 years. & Wyoming VA throughout several years. Memorial services will be at the Lake funeral Home in Ionia on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Josh Cahill officiating. Interment at Balcom Cemetery,Ionia,MI.
