Paul, who was sitting on the engine near the engineer, to the ground, and it is supposed that the breaking planks caught him and threw him under the forward wheel of the water tank which passed over his breast, injuring him internally to such an extent that he lived but about twenty minutes. Mr. Paul was a hard working man of about 55 years, and leaves a wife and two daughters who reside at Collins. Justice Porter held an inquest on the body of the dead man and empaneled the following jury: Josiah Dilley, Geo. Dinsmore, N.T. Sandborn, Orrin Howe, Alfred Allen, Jason Woodbury, who after taking evidence in the matter, rendered a verdict of accidental death, but blaming no one for the accident. In going over the bridge the separator had preceded the engine, and when the accident occurred Mr. Fishell, the engineer stopped the engine not ten feet from the unfortunate man, and was obliged to back the engine in order that the body might be released. Mr. Paul was a hard-working, honest man, and his death falls heavily upon his family, who had only his hands for their support, and they have the sympathy of all in their affliction.
