Payne, for 5 or 6 years a resident of Ionia and a long time resident of Saranac, died at the latter place Wed. morning. He came to Ionia as deputy register of deeds under P. T. Williams, but for four or five years had been a clerk in Beattie’s shoe store. He had been sick since January, when he returned to Saranac and has since been living with friends at that place and in Lowell. He was 52 years old, and leaves one son, in clothing business at Lowell. His wife died many years ago. The funeral will take place at the home of M. S. Harrington, Saranac, at 2 p.m. Friday. His death was quite sudden at the last as he was up and dressed that morning, when he suddenly fell over and was gone.
