The Ionia Standard, Friday, April 29, 1892
Mrs. E. F. Payne, of Saranac, died very suddenly on the 27th.  When Mr. Payne 
went home to supper, she complained of a queer feeling of numbness in her 
arms.  As she grew rapidly worse he ran to a neighbor’s asking them to go for 
a doctor, but she died before he arrived.  The trouble is thought to have been 
neuralgia of the heart.

Mrs. Payne was very highly esteemed, and her death has caused a general 
feeling of sadness in the community.
