C. Peabody, well known Danby township farmer, died early Thursday evening of blood poisoning. It resulted from cutting a small pustule from his face, while shaving, on the Sunday previous. By Tuesday it had become quite painful and while in Mulliken he called on a physician and had it dressed. Returning to his home, three-fourths of a mile west of the Compton church, he was seized with a chill. Dr. R. W. Alton, of Portland, was called, and every effort made to check the progress of the poison, but to no avail. His face swelled to twice its natural size and his suffering was intense. All members of the family were with him when he passed away. Funeral services were held at the Compton church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Pholly, pastor of the Mulliken church, officiating. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Mulliken, and the burial was under lodge auspices. He also belonged to the Sebewa Odd Fellow lodge and was a Modern Woodman. Mr. Peabody was born in Roxand, where the village of Mulliken is now located. His mother, Mrs. Jane Peabody, 81 years old, is still a resident there. He was one of six brothers—Albert, Grand Ledge; Hiram, Mulliken; Fred, Grand Rapids; Dr. Guy Peabody, Pendelville, O.; Dr. Chas. Peabody, Lake Odessa. His marriage to Almira Hoover took place March 13, 1881. For a year they lived on a farm in Sebewa, next locating on the old Cronkrite place, in Danby, which they bought of Hozial Horner. The wife survives, as do three children— Mrs. John Hudson, Clarence and Charles Peabody, of Danby. Deceased had been treasurer of his township and was one of its best known citizens.
