July 1, 1954 Mrs. Mabel E. Peacock, 78, wife of Jason Peacock, former village president and Ionia County drain commissioner, passed away early Monday morning at Pennock hospital, where she had been a patient for three days. She was born November 6, 1875, near Lowell, the daughter of Francis and Rebecca (King) Walker, and was a lifelong resident of Ionia county. She lived west of town on a farm for five years before moving to the village. They purchased a grocery store on April 29, 1912, which they operated until 1936, when they retired. Mrs. Peacock was a member of the Merry Social Club. Surviving are her husband, Jason; one daughter, Mrs. Grover Cook, of St. Joseph; one sister, Mrs. Sylvia Parker of Lake Odessa; one brother, Frank Walker, of Saranac, and one granddaughter. Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at the Pickens funeral chapel with burial in Lakeside cemetery. Rev. Paul Robinson officiated.
