All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Ransom mlnransom@chartermi.net August 10, 2011, 5:25 pm The Portland Observer, Thursday, March 1, 1923 The following item taken from the Daily Advertiser, of Tiflin, Ohio, tells of the death of Mrs. Susan Peake, well known in Portland through her years of residence on a farm near this place: “Mrs. Susan Peake, 61, wife of Edson Peake, died at her home in Bettsville, Ohio, Wednesday afternoon, February 21, after being in poor health for more than two years. The last four moths she was almost helpless from a stroke of paralysis. She was the eldest daughter of John and Lovina Zeigler, and was born near Ft. Seneca in Pleasant township July 8, 1861. She was married to Edson Peake in Fremont, Oct. 1886, by Rev. Prentiss. After her marriage she and her husband went to Portland, Mich., where they resided on a farm. A part of her married life was spent on a farm east of Bettsville and at her home where she passed away. She was a highly respected woman and will be very much missed by her family and a large circle of friends. Besides her husband she leaves three sons, Fred, of near Old Fort, Ervin, of Burgoon, John, of near Portland, Mich., and one step-daughter, Mrs. Eda Jones, of Grand Ledge, Mich. Also there are four grandchildren and one great grandchild, and a sister, Mrs. Charles Sibrel, of Bettsville, and brother, Charles Zeigler, of near Old Fort. The funeral will be held at the Bettsville Methodist church Sunday at 1:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. E. R. Thomas.
