Pecktil, 74, of Ionia died Thursday evening at Butterworth Hospital. He was born July 6, 1919, in Maple Rapids, the son of Fred and Lydia McCracken Pecktil. He was a supervisor at GenCorp for many years. He was active in harness racing. Survivors include his wife Luella; two stepsons, Philip Hesche of Lowell and Stephen Hesche of Saranac; one stepdaughter, Joella Miller of Clarksville; four stepgrandsons; five sisters, Ruth Caudy of Lansing, Dorothy Harper of Chesaning, Carolyn Geller of St. Johns, Martha Windsor of Washington, and Mary Jane Barrett of St. Johns; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Floyd and Lyle. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Westley Barrett, Stephen Hesche, Phillip Hesche, Milo Schafer, Stuart Church and Julie Worthington. Honorary pallbearers will be Elvie Hefflebower, Cliff Halsted, Charles Allen, Bob Dunton, Lyle Varney and Bob White. The family will be at the Rich Street Chapel of the funeral home from 2-4 and from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday. A memorial has been established for the Michigan Harness Horseman’s Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home.
