April 1, 2016 LUELLA PECKTIL Lucilla Pecktil, age 83 of Ionia, passed away on March 30, 2016 in Ionia. Luella was born on June 26, 1932 in Keene Twp., MI to Glenn and Jessie (Blough) Higgins. Luella graduated from Marble School 8th grade and Lowell High School in 1949. She then graduated from Grand Rapid Junior College School of Practical Nursing in 1951. Luella married Darrel E. Hesche, March 19, 1952 and had four children, Joella, Glenn, Phillip and Stephen. Luella married Milo Pecktil Feb. 23, 1985. They were active in Sulky racing and made many friends in the racing circuit. Nursing was her profession and she worked most of her life serving others. She also had an adult foster care home for several years in her home. Luella worked at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas Sunshine Hospital, Ionia County Memorial Hospital, a local physician, Gen Corp. and their predecessor. She loved sewing and was a leader with Sonja Bergy in earlier years. She had taken several classes to extend her education. Luella is survived by her daughter, Joella (Don) Miller of Saranac, MI; two sons, Phillip (Cathy) Hesche of Saranac, MI. Stephen (Janey) Hesche of Fort Myers, FL; sister, Glenna Byrne of Saranac, MI.; sister-in-law, Elaine Higgins; eight grandsons, Tony (Billie Jo), Phillip Jr. (Shelby), Brad (Shandra), Ryan (Wendy), Josh, Shane, Hunter and Zac; seven granddaughters, Holly, Caitlyn, Felicia, Brittany, Destiny, Lacey and Kalie; 14 great-grandchildren; and three special friends, Jane Emelander, Crystal Gravelin and Nancy Davis. She is preceded in death by her husband, Milo Pecktil; father, Glenn Higgins; mother, Jessie Higgins; son, Glenn Hesche; brother, Grant Higgins; and special friend, Millie Gillette. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Saranac Community church in Saranac. Family will be accepting visitors on Friday, April 1, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Memorial donation may be made to Phoenix Society For Burn Survivors, 1835 R.W.
