July 31, 1913 REAPER TIME VISITS HOMES OF THREE This city lost another of its old residents Sunday, when Harriet Peifer passed to her last rest at the home 323 Lewis Street. She was the wife of Chas. Peifer, who died several years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Peifer came to this part of the country about 1883 and settled at Cooks Corners. They were proprietors and ran the hotel at that place until his death when she moved to Belding and took charge of the Franklin House on West Main Street. In 1886 this hotel was burned and quarters were then taken up in a house near the Bricker Hotel. A short time after moving to this building it also was destroyed by fire and she then moved to the house on Lewis Street, where she has lived until death. Mrs. Peifer was past seventy years of age. She is survived by an only son, Claude L., of Grand Rapids, who is conductor on the G.R. & I Railroad running north to the resort countries. Funeral was held at the home Tuesday at two o’clock Rev. Edrie Collins in charge and Fred Connell and Mrs. E.E. Hudson singing. Interment at the Otisco cemetery. Mrs. Peifer was _____ to her last rest by her old time friends, F.A. Washburn, Harry Lamb, Chas Wise, John Donovan and Conra Brigham of this city and Matt Connelly of Grand Rapids. She was a member of the Methodist church but had not been enabled to take an active part in the church but had not been enabled to take an active part in the church work, on account of failing health for several months. She had ______ of friends here who learned to love her and take advice from her. The ________ to the community is great, and will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
