Pelon Sr., 90, of Fenwick, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 1994, at his home. He was born Nov. 7, 1904 in Grand Rapids, the son of John and Jenny VanderMaas Pelon. He worked for 17 years at the Belding Hosiery Mill and at the same time in 1937 purchased the Woodard Lake Dance Hall and Resort. He raised mink for 20 years on the family farm. In 1984 he retired after 20 years in the taxidermy business which he operated. He was a member of the State Mink Ranchers Association. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. He married the former Margaret Halfman in Springfield, Ill. in 1951. He is survived by one daughter, Virginia (John) McGarth, of Waterford; one son, Arthur (Michelle) Pelon, of Fenwick; one daughter in law, Lorraine Pelon, of Ionia; seven grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 1978; one son, Paul Pelon Jr., in 1984; and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Cook Funeral Home. The Rev. Kenneth Harger of the Shiloh Community Church will officiate. Burial will be at the Woodard Lake Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial for the Michigan Wildlife Federation has been established in his memory, in care of the funeral home.
