Perrien, Sr., 90, long time resident of Ionia, died early Tuesday morning in Ionia County memorial hospital where he had been confined four days. At the time of his death he lived at 402 Division street. He was born October 7, 1874 in Montcalm county and following his marriage August 25, 1898 in Grand Rapids to Mattie E. Knapp, lived in Bushnell township until moving to Ionia in 1908. His parents were Elton and Catherine Ries Perrien. For a number of years Mr. Perrien worked at Ionia car shops, also Standard Oil company and Ionia Gas and Light company before venturing into the operation of a confectionary store with his wife on Ionia’s main street. He later was affiliated with Consumers Power company and from July 1937 until his retirement in 1945, operated a restaurant and gasoline station east of Ionia on M21. Mr. Perrien was a member of IOOF lodge 341 of Palo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie, November 1, 1954. Survivors include four children, Mrs. Ruth Bailey, Mrs. Milton Stilwell, Charles and Wallace Perrien, Jr., all of Ionia; one sister, Mrs. Jennie Wysel of Grand Rapids; nine grand and 37 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Myers funeral home with the Rev. James Kendall of First Christian church officiating. Palo IOOF lodge will have charge of graveside service at Palo cemetery. ------ Funeral service was conducted Thursday afternoon for Wallace Perrien, Sr., who died early Tuesday morning at Ionia hospital. The Rev. James Kendall of First Christian church officiated and interment was at Palo cemetery. Bearers, all grandsons, were Donald Bailey, Gordon Bailey, Clare Wilson, Charles Perrien, Jr., Leroy Feehan and John Perrien. Byron Flinn was in charge of flowers. Members of Odd Fellows lodge and Palo and Rebekahs attended in groups. Relatives and friends attended from grand Rapids, Rockford, Lansing, St. Johns, Greenville, Stanton, Sheridan, Vickeryville, Mt. Pleasant, Edmore, Ovid, Holt, Saranac, Palo and Carson City.
