April 18, 2013 Wallace J. Perrien II, 98, of Troutman, N.C., formerly of Ionia, Mich., died April 14, 2013. He died three days before his 99th birthday at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C. Wallace was born April 17, 1914 in Ionia, the fourth child of Wallace A. and Mattie (Knapp) Perrien. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1932 and went to work with his brother-in-law driving truck. In 1937, he was married to Margaret V. Annis from Belding. They moved to Holt where he delivered milk for Lansing Guernsey Dairy. During the war he worked at the Michigan State College cannery as foreman. When the college closed the cannery, he reopened it at the Michigan Reformatory in Ionia and became the Superintendent. He moved his family back to Ionia in 1950. Wallace was instrumental in forming the Public Employees Credit Union. After 31 years at the Reformatory, he retired from the State of Michigan. Wallace was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge. He participated in Masonic Lodge #36-Ionia, Royal Arch Masons #14, Council R&S.M-#23, and Knights Templar #11. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Margaret his wife of 70 years. Also by his sisters Ruth Higbee and Marie Stilwell, and his brother Charles Perrien and their spouses and many nieces and nephews. Surviving are his children, Wallace John (Mary) Perrien of Troutman, N.C., daughter Jean (Chet) Schneider of Houghton Lake; grandchildren, Mark (Felicity) DeMartini of Walkaway, Western Australia, Susan DeMartini of Ionia, Elizabeth DeMartini of Saranac, Michael (Holly) DeMartini of Waxhaw, N.C., Gregory Schneider of Atlanta, Ga., Karl Schneider of Detroit, Theresa Schneider of Ionia, John D. Perrien of Fort Mill, S.C., and Joseph A. Perrien of Mooresville, N.C. There are 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 19, 11 a.m. at Le Valley Methodist Church with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home of Ionia. Online condolences may be made at www.lakefuneralhomes.com.
