Perry, 90, of Belding, passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 8, 2005, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus, Grand Rapids. She was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Belding, the daughter of Chester and Flossie Brown Treusdell. Doris graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1934. On her birthday in 1936 she married her high school sweetheart, Emerald E. Perry, in Greenville. This year they were blessed to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary. Doris has been an active member of church all her life, singing in the choir and serving as superintendent of Sunday School. She was a member of Belding Congregational Church, but has also had membership at the Crystal and Greenville Congregational churches, as well as Belding Methodist Church. She was a past member of the Belding Literary Club and the Belding Garden Club. Music played a large and important part in Doris’ life and in her family’s. She was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and a lifelong love of music, song and dancing. In earlier years she and Emerald were accomplished ballroom dancers. They, along with their daughter and occasionally their son, performed a variety of musical selections at local events such as the Greenville Senior Center and the Stanton High School Reunion. Doris was a lover of animals, big and small. She would adopt many a stray dog or cat and keep them until a suitable home was found. Doris was a true Christian woman who read her daily devotions, prayed for many and loved to read her Bible. She was also an avid doll collector and had collected a large number of dolls, all special to her. For a number of years she worked for Charles Courser and Al Johnson at the then Courser Funeral Home and later for Johnson Funeral Home in Belding. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her voice may be silent here on earth, but the heavens now sing on high. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, George Treusdell; sister, Eleanor Bahns; and son, Earl E. Perry in 2004. Doris is survived by her husband, Emerald E. Perry; daughters, Ellen C. and Geoffrey Johnson of Grand Rapids, Jean A. and Max Johnson of Stanton; daughter-in-law, Beverly Perry of Flushing; grandchildren, Timothy Reilly, Scott and Jennifer Reilly, Lori and Daniel Koster, Kevin and Aimee Johnson; great-grandchildren, twins Alex and Ana Reilly, Liane and Amanda Koster, Emerald Johnson; sister, Margaret Bing of Grand Rapids; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Bill Freeman of First Congregational Church, officiating. Internment is in Strong Cemetery, south of Barryton. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to the International Aid of Spring Lake or the Ionia County Humane Society.
