Peterman, 77, passed away Friday at 11 p.m. at 774 Second avenue after several years of ill health. Born January 22, 1888, in Carlton township, Barry county near Hastings, he was the son of Emmanuel and Alice Haney Peterman and was a lifelong resident of Hastings and Lake Odessa area. He spent his early life on the farm. Mr. Peterman was employed by E.W. Bliss company before and after military service in World War I. He married Ruth Shade, July 3, 1917 at Hastings and moved to Lake Odessa in 1920 to operate a truckline. It was later owned and operated by Associated Truckline between Grand Rapids and Lake Odessa. Mr. Peterman was employed by Lake Odessa Canning Company for a number of years as a truck driver and later worked at Nash-Kelvinator during World War II. He was a Lake Odessa school bus driver 14 years before his 1958 retirement. Mr. Peterman was a charter member of Laurence J. Bauer post, American Legion in Hastings and served as one of its first commanders. He was one of the oldest members of LaVerne Demaray post, American Legion in Lake Odessa. A member also of Lesky-Dulek chapter 29 of Disabled Veterans, he served in various offices of both organizations. Surviving are his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Mrs. E. Ray Strecker of LaPorte, Tex.; a grandson, Daryl, and one niece. Mr. Peterman is at Pickens funeral home in Lake Odessa. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Glen McCarty of Saranac officiating. Memorial contributions to the heart and cancer funds are being received.
