He was born in Easton Township Aug. 15, 1930, the son of Elmer and Frances Van Giesen Petersen. He attended Haynor rural school and graduated from Ionia High School in the class of 1948. After graduation, he attended short courses in agriculture at Michigan State University. He was married to Rose Gibson Dec. 17, 1955, at the Palo United Methodist Church. A 4-H Club leader for more than 25 years, Petersen was also a member of Ionia Moose Lodge, the American Sportsman Club, and the International Safari Club, was an active bowler for several years, and formerly played on several ball teams in the Ionia area. He was a co-sponsor of Franmer’s City League team. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He is survived by his wife, Rose, one son, Darrell; three daughters, Mrs. Brian (Kimberley) Covert, and Lynn and Tracie Petersen; and two grandchildren. Also surviving is his mother, Frances Petersen; and a sister, Arlene Hecht. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from Zion United Methodist Church in Ionia. Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. The family will be at the Leddick Funeral Home Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Ionia County Unit of the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home. Subsequent Publication: Saturday, August 7, 1982 Funeral services for Arden Petersen, 51, who died Tuesday, were held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Zion United Methodist Church, the Rev. Eldon Schram officiating. Church organist was Mrs. Evelyn Waters. Interment was in Easton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Earl Scott, Gilbert Borup, Roger Froling, William Reisbig, Stanley Covert, and Russell McKellips. Following graveside services, lunch was served to family and friends at Easton United Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements were by Leddick Funeral Home.
