Petersen, 88, of Rector Road, Ionia, died early Sunday morning in Sheridan Community Hospital. Born in Easton Township Sept. 23, 1895, she was the daughter of Frank and Nettie McPherson Van Giesen, and was a lifelong resident of the Ionia area. She attended Haynor School and Ionia High School and was employed at the Belding silk mills, Allen Brothers in Ionia. She was an early 4-H Club leader and continued as a leader for many years. She was married Aug. 29, 1917, in Ionia to Elmer Petersen. He preceded her in death in October 1970. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Arlene Hecht of rural Ionia, a daughter-in- law, Mrs. Rose Petersen; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Lucille Telfor of Belding. A son, Earl Arden Petersen, and a son-in-law, Frederick Hecht, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Leddick Funeral Home in Ionia, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial for the Ionia County Unit of the American Cancer society has been established, in care of the funeral home.
