June 6, 1986 IONIA – George Petersen, 91, of East Main Street, Ionia, died Thursday night at his daughter’s residence. He was born in Sidney August 1, 1894, the son of Yorgan and Caroline Brown Petersen, and attended rural schools near Sidney. He was married to Alice Cartridge in Greenville on August 2, 1915. The couple lived most of their married life in Ionia County. She preceded him in death on May 1, 1971. He was employed as a furniture refinisher by the Stafford Company, later at Ypsilanti-Reed Company, and later at the Ionia Manufacturing Company. He was a member of the Belding Church of God. He is survived by three daughters, Dora Bryan of Ionia, Doloris Taylor of Ionia and Rose Mary Risch of Williamston; eight grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Montgomery-Leddick Funeral Home, the burial at Highland Park Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made at the funeral home.
