Ionia County News-Thurs. Sept. 24, 1959

FUNERAL SERVICE HELD MONDAY FOR WAYNE PETERSEN
Funeral service was held Monday, September 21, at 2:00 p.m.at the First Methodist
Church in Ionia for Wayne C. Petersen, 46, of Ionia, who was killed in an automobile
accident on Friday, September 18.

Rev. Heath Goodwin officiated at the service. Interment was at Sunset Memorial
Garden Shrines.

Petersen was killed when his car collided with one driven by Joan Edith Leitch, 46,
of RFD 1, Stanton, about 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Montcalm County Sheriff;s department
reported the accident occrred at the intersection of Wyman road and County Road 522, two mile
south of McBride. Officers report Petersen failed to stop for a sign, and his car
collided almost head-on with the Leitch car. Mrs. Leitch was turning onto Wyman road at the
time, Petersen was returning to Ionia from Edmore.

Mrs. Leitch was taken to the Edmore Hospital where her injuries were reported to
include lacerated scalp, multiple abrasions, and fractured leg.

Petersen was born December 25, 1912, the son of Mr and Mrs William Petersen,
Sheridan and was a graduate of the Sheridan High School in 1932.

In July of 1935 he was married to Frances Keihl of Lakeview. The couple moved from 
Sheridan to Ionia 16 years ago. For the past 13 years he has been a driver-salesman
for the Ionia Bottling Co. of Ionia.

He was a member of the Ionia Elks lodge and the Ionia Country Club.

Surviving besides his wife, Frances, are a daughter, Sandra, at home; his parents Mr
and Mrs William Petersen of Sheridan; two sisters Mrs Levi Hansen of Lakeview, and Mrs.
Phillip May of Stanton; one brother, Gaylord Petersen of Lansing.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Phelps Funeral Chapel, Ionia.
