Ionia County News - Thursday, Nov. 9, 1944

John M. Petersen, 72, died in Ionia County Memorial Hospital about six o'clock 
Thursday morning, November 9. Although he had been failing in health the past 
year he was not considered to be seriously ill until last Saturday. Mr. 
Petersen was born in Denmark, July 22, 1872, and came to the United States when 
he was 19 years old, settling in Illinois. He was married to Miss Amelia Peter, 
at Dwight, Ill, March 6, 1902, and they came to Ionia county in 1906. For 
several years the family lived on a farm but for the past 12 years Mr. Petersen 
operated a gas station at the corner of Cleveland street and old M-21.


He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood for 50 years and Modern Woodmen of 
the World for the past 40 years.
