Larry was born in Lansing and resided in Portland until he graduated from Portland High School in 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy a short time after high school and was assigned to the USS Arlington (harbored at Pearl Harbor). He and his shipmates traveled to Japan, Midway, Guam and Australia. The USS Arlington, a tracking ship for all the moon shots, afforded Larry the opportunity to witness the splash down of Apollo 10. While he was in the Navy, Larry’s family moved to Arizona. After he finished his tour in the Navy, Larry bought a Harley and traveled for a year then returned to Phoenix. He married Nina Bolt, and they had a son, Christopher Charles and a daughter, Amber Lea. The marriage to Nina ended after 21 years. In 1994 Larry married Teri Hale to whom he was married at the time of his death. He worked at the Tonto Fish Hatchery for 30 years and retired as hatchery manager. Larry had many hobbies and interests, drag racing, flat track racing, motocross, bowling, softball, basketball, archery, horses, music and flying acrobatic RC planes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Evelyn Peterson. Survivors include his wife, Teri; son, Chris (Wendy); grandson, Jarod; daughter, Amber; brothers, Steve, Mike (Margaret) and Rick (Wilma); sister, Brenda; several nieces and nephews; and long time friend from Portland, Becky Dunham. Services were held at the Mountain Bible Church in Payson, Ariz., April 22. Larry felt strongly about helping underprivileged children.
