Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard - Mon. March 14 & 16, 1955


Mrs. Ellon El Peterson, 93, the widow of Ezra Peterson, died at her home on 
Wall Street Saturday morning. She was born March 14, 1961 at Geneva, 
Pennsylvania, the daughter of William and Isabelle Mattocks.

In 1871 she came to Ionia with her parents in a covered wagon. She later 
returned to Pennsylvania where she was married in 1879 to Ezra Peterson at 
Geneva, Pennsylvania. In 1901 the family returned to the vicinity of Ionia 
where she has since resided. Mr. Peterson died in 1933 following 54 years of 
married life.

She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Maggie Showers and Mrs. Ida Austin of 
Ionia, Mrs. Cora Ford and Mrs. Violet Nunnery of Detroit and Mrs. Dorothy 
Stapleton of Drayton Plains; one son, William, of Ionia; thirteen 
grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren and three great-great-
grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Wismer and Mrs. Ida Marquette of Durand 
also survives.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Stone-Kauffman 
funeral home by the Rev. Court O. Adams. Interment will be in the family plot 
at Easton Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ellon E. Peterson, who died Saturday morning, were 
conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at Stone-Kauffman funeral home by the Rev. 
Court O. Adams.

Pallbearers were Herbert Grover, Robert Munnery, Robert Stapleton, Clarence 
Stapleton, Harry Showers, Fred Luth, Norbert Ford and Francis Ford. Burial was 
made in Easton cemetery.

Those attending from out of town were Mrs. Cora Ford and Norbert Ford of 
Centerline; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stapleton, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Luth, and Mr. and 
Mrs. Fred Stapleton of Drayton Plains; Mr. and Mrs. Lovell Munnery, Mrs. Ruth 
Smith, Francis Ford, Mrs. Ruth Yetke, and Mrs. Rudy Pekorsky of Detroit; Mr. 
and Mrs. Robert Stapleton of Belding, Mrs. Delores Jaroslawski of Pontiac. Mr. 
and Mrs. Herbert Grover of Ortonville, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Showers and family of 
Traverse City, Mrs. Nancy Wismer of Durand, Mrs. Pearl Lemkie of South Haven, 
Mrs. Mabel Duffy of St. Louis, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Klouse of 
Petoskey, Gerald VanHorn of Kokomo, Indiana, Mrs. Grace Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. 
William Barber, Mrs. Price Ballard, Mrs. Maggie Pasche of Lansing and Mrs. Vera 
Curtis and daughter of Grand Rapids.
