Peterson was buried up to the neck, and was dead when his fellow workmen reached him, being crushed by the force of the immense mass of earth, the movement of which carried him along several feet after he was buried. Dr. Ogden was telephoned for, but by time of his arrival it was known that he could be of no service. Peterson leaves a wife and one son, John Jr., who is employed in the railroad shops. No one else was injured. It is probable that the slide was caused, in part, at least, by the rain of previous night. The funeral service of Peter Peterson, who met his death on last Friday, was largely attended. Rev. Dr. Cogshall preached a pathetic sermon, full of sympathy for the bereaved family, the text being, “Watch ye therefore, and be ye ready, for at such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh.” The floral tributes were most profuse and beautiful, among them being a floral pillow with the inscription, “Father” from his son and daughter. It was extremely handsome. It was furnished by M. Wetterling, a countryman of deceased.
