She was born on February 23, 1907 in Fenwick, the daughter of William H. and Pearl Haysmer Balderson. Bea was a past member of the State Road Club, in her “farming days,” a member of the Friends of the Belding Library, longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Belding and held membership with a number of Farm Bureau Groups; including Chairperson of the Ionia County Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau Blue Cross Insurance. Bea was also a member of the Banner Grange and taught sewing to 4H and Girl Scouts where she diligently taught the now forgotten art of darning socks and handmade button holes. During World War II she painted spark plugs at AC Spark Plug in Ionia. Bea was also the former Guardian of Jobs Daughters Bethel 62 of Belding, Chaplain of the Grand Guardian of Michigan Jobs Daughters and was a past Vice President of the Belding Housing Commission. During her working years Bea had been with Swansons Furniture Store in Belding and later at Russell’s Jewelry Store, retiring in 1972. After retirement, Bea had also worked at Mari-Mari Antiques in Belding. Bea was also a great cook. Her homemade peanut brittle at Christmas time will be missed by her family and friends. She had a lifelong love of farming and the cycle of life in planting, growth and the harvest, as well as in Egyptian Archeology and had read extensively on the subject. Bea was blessed with a long and productive life and all who knew her were indeed blessed. She was married on July 17, 1926 to C. Ray Peterson. Bea was preceded by her husband and one son; Richard N. Peterson. She is survived by her children; Jean and Robert Larson of Grand Rapids, Ann and John Bowers of Belding, Jane Waldron of Fenwick, Shirley Peterson of Addison. Bea is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Private interment will follow in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to First Congregational Church or the Belding Library Building Fund.
