Thursday, Nov. 9, 1944 John M. Peterson, 72, who had operated an oil station in South Ionia for the past 12 years, died Thursday morning at 5:30 o'clock in the Ionia County Memorial hospital where he was taken Saturday afternoon after a heart attack. He had been in poor health for a year. Mr. Peterson was born July 22, 1872, in Denmark, and came to the United States in 1890, settling in Illinois, where he was married March 6, 1902, to Amelia Peterson of Dewitt, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Peterson moved to Ionia in 1906, and had lived here since. They owned a farm on the State road for many years before moving to South Ionia to open an oil station. Mr. Peterson was manager of the farm bureau in Ionia at one time. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood for 50 years and a member of the Modern Woodmen of America for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Amelia; four children, Stanley Peterson of Ionia township, Mrs. Allen Haskin of Ronald, Mrs. Russell Wood of the State road and Carmen Peterson of R(?) #2 Belding; and six grandchildren. The body will be taken Friday to the Allen Haskin home in Ronald to repose until Sunday, when services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at the Boynton funeral home.
