Pettit, 82, of 209 North Jefferson street, died Thursday noon at Ionia County Memorial hospital. He had been a patient the past month. Born in Burford, Canada, July 9, 1879, the son of Miram and Ella Wedge Pettit, he came to Ionia at the age of six years. He attended a veterinary college in Grand Rapids and after graduating, served in that capacity for many years. In April of 1911, he was married to Onie Lyon. She preceded him in death July 19, 1955. Mr. Pettit worked at the Pere Marquette carshop a number of years and was employed at Michigan Reformatory until his retirement in 1945. Following his retirement he was employed part time at the Ionia theater. He is survived by one brother, John Pettit of rural Fenwick. Funeral will be conducted at Boynton funeral home Monday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. John W. Tennyson, pastor of First Baptist church, officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at Palo cemetery. Pettit, 82, of 209 North Jefferson street, who died Thursday noon at Ionia County Memorial hospital, was conducted Monday at Boynton funeral home. The Rev. John W. Tennyson of the First Baptist church officiated and burial was in the family lot at Palo cemetery. Bearers were Harold Anslow, Nels Strand, Ward Haskins, Clarence Aldrich, Blaine Laden and Dr. H. L. Imus. Out of town relatives attending were Mr. and Mrs. John Pettit of Fenwick, Mrs. Mable Lyon, William Lyon, Harry Lyon, William Lyon, Jr., and Lucia Lyon of East Jordan; Mrs. Jessie Cahoon of Lowell, Nancy Merriam of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Kimball of Palo, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bradley of Coldwater, and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Anderson and Mrs. Carol Baxter of Greenville.
