Ionia County News - Thursday, 8 December 1932
Adelbert J. Phelps, 72, a pioneer, resident of Ionia, died Friday, November 
25, at his home on Dexter St.

Mr. Phelps was born in Royal Oak, March 3, 1860, and came to Ionia 54 years 
ago.  For many years he was a carpenter and contractor, later operating a feed 
barn.

On January 17, 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Ida Mae Hubbard, who 
died December 22, 1935.  Later Mr. Phelps married Miss Ina Hedegard of 
Belding.  The second Mrs. Phelps preceded him in death 10 months ago.

Deceased was an accomplished musician on both wind and string instrumets.  He 
is survived by his son, Roy, and two grandsons, Jack and Phil Phelps, of 
Cincinnati.

The funeral was conducted by Dr. Paul L. Stewart of the Church of Christ 
Sunday afternoon, from the residence on N. Dexter street.  Burial was in Oak 
Hill Cemetery.
