He was a son of J. V. Phelps, and spent most of his early life here. In 1889 he went to Jackson where he was employed in a factory until he was taken ill. He then went to Texas and after a short stay there took up some government land about 30 miles west of Meeker, Colo., his brother Louis taking up land adjoining. He is survived by his father, J. V. Phelps, a sister, Miss Nettie Phelps and a brother, Louis, who, with his wife, accompanied the body to Portland. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the home of J. V. Phelps, Rev. J. H. Stewart officiating. Burial took place in Portland cemetery. Macy was a favorite among his associates and many of the old friends attended the last rites. He was 34 years old.
