Terry L. Phelps, 68, of Fenwick passed away surrounded by his family Nov. 15, 
2011 in Grand Rapids. He was born May 25, 1943 in Ionia the son of Walter and 
Naomi (Popendick) Phelps.

He graduated from Ionia High School in 1961. Terry married Darla Gokee Aug. 31, 
1973. He worked for Bergers, Caswells, Navarre Motor Sales and retired from 
Bookwalter Motor Sales in Stanton in 2010. He owned a car care center in Ionia 
in previous years. Terry was a member of Stanton American Legion, TPA and Ionia 
Elks. He loved to go to Brimley with his wife and dog, Heidi, and he enjoyed 
cars and racing. 

Terry is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Darla Phelps of Fenwick; 
sons, Glen (Beth) Phelps of Rockford and Brian (Patrice) Phelps of Ionia; 
mother, Naomi Phelps of Lowell; sister, Kay (Mike) Bravo of California; three 
grandchildren, Alec, Bryce and Josie; uncles, Vern (Marilyn) Phelps of Grand 
Rapids and Edgar Harkness of Ionia; nephew, Scott (Lisa) Freund of California; 
special friends, Rick (Phyllis) Plunkett of Brimley, Aaron (Katie) Kohn of 
Greenville and John Bookwalter of Stanton.

He was preceded in death by his father in  1993. 

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church 
with Pastor Cliff Allen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to 
services at the church. Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.
