March 13, 1922 WAS RESIDENT OF IONIA FOR HALF CENTURY Mrs. G.F. Phelps Died Sunday at Her West Main Street Home. Mrs. Caroline E. Phelps, age 76 years, one of Ionia’s pioneer residents, died at her home, 630 West Main Street, Sunday morning at 11:10 after a serious illness of several days. Mrs. Phelps has been ill for many months and has failed rapidly during the past few days. Mrs. Phelps was born November 20, 1845, at Medians, Mich. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Washington Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Phelps came to Ionia nearly a half century ago, Mr. Phelps being one of the pioneer grocers of this vicinity. Mr. Phelps died 11 years ago march 5. Mrs. Phelps, who was a member of the Presbyterian Church, was always a very active worker in church and social circles. Mrs. Phelps leaves two sons, G.M. Phelps of this city, and Will Phelps, of Detroit; one sister, Miss Harriet Moore, of Spenceport, N.Y. and a sister-in- law, Mrs. H.G. Thomas of East Tawas, Mich. The funeral will be held from the residence on West Main Street, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. Mark L. Marshall, of Lansing, will officiate. Burial will take place in the family lot at Highland Park cemetery. The friends have been asked to omit flowers.
