Ionia Sentinel - 16 June 1986
Helen Irene Phelps, 95, formerly of Hackett Street, Ionia, died early Sunday in 
Lowell Medical Facility.  Born April 11, 1891, in Sebewa Township, the daughter 
of Newton and Ida Kauffman Stout.  She attended Lake Odessa schools.  She was 
married to Lee Walter Phelps in 1913; he preceded her in death in 1958.  She 
had made her home in Ionia since 1910.  She was a member of the Ionia 
Presbyterian Church and the women's group of the church.

Surviving are four sons;  Laurence of Hastings; Frank and Walter of Ionia; and 
LaVern of Grand Rapids; one daughter, Maxine (Melvin) Heffelbower of Saranac; 
12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; 
and a sister, Ruth Rowland of Flint.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 pm from the Ionia First Presbyterian 
Church with the Rev. Robert C. Nixon officiating.  visitors can call at Hull 
memorial Chapel, Muir, until noon Wednesday.  A memorial for the Ionia First 
Presbyterian church as been established in care of the funeral home.
