Phelps, 91, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2005. She was born on March 20, 1913 in Orleans Twp., Ionia County, the daughter of Charles and Caroline (Broderson) Peterson. She was a resident of the Plainfield Health Care Center, Indiana. Except for the past few years, she was a life long resident of Ionia. She graduated from Ionia High School and Davenport Business College in Grand Rapids. She was married to Frank W. Phelps on February 25, 1938. She worked for Auto Body Credit Union of Ionia for 17 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church of Ionia where she was a past treasurer. Hazel is survived by her sons Kenneth L. (Kathryn) of Mears, Mich., formerly of Indianapolis, Ind., and Frederic W. (Barbara) of Plainfield, Ind.; sisters, Carolyn Bowerman of Frankfort, Esther Hall of Kalamazoo, and Louise Lake of Grand Rapids; three grandchildren, Gregory Phelps of Columbia, SC, Susan Baker of Chicago, Ill. and Julie Phelps of Phoenix, Ariz.; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; son Gregory Paul; brothers Andrew, Raymond, G. Edward and John Peterson; sisters Olene Curtis and Lillian Burrows. The Memorial Service will be conducted by the Rev. Donald Graham, Pastor, at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005 at the Zion United Methodist Church, Ionia. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Ionia. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Zion United Methodist Church, Plainfield Health Car (Caring Hands Activities), or to Vista Care Hospice Foundation, Indianapolis, Indiana, in memory of Mrs. Hazel C.
