Roy Phelps was attended Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Phelps, 424 High street. The service was in charge of Rev. E. E. Branch and Mrs. Eugene Smith and Mrs. Harry E. Spencer sang. The pallbearers were Fred Fisher, Capt. Ray Hogarth, Orry Waterbury, Lee Yates, Dr. R. L. Benedict and Arthur Colvin. The remains were interred in Oak Hill Cemetery. There was a great quantity of flowers the testimonials of esteem for the deceased and sympathy for Mr. Phelps coming from many places, probably more than a hundred offerings being placed around the casket. There were four beautiful baskets and pieces almost in countless numbers. Miss Myrtle B. Jefferson was born in Pentwater, Mich., April 20, 1884, and was married to Mr. Phelps in Ludington April 19, 1910. Her death occurred in St. Vincent’s hospital in Toledo last Sunday Morning, May 14, after a critical illness covering a period of three weeks, about half of this time the patient being in the hospital and meningitis being the immediate cause of death after great suffering for many days. Mr. Phelps came to Ionia with the remains last Tuesday being accompanied here by C. H. Walter, traveling freight agent of the Pere Marquette at the Toledo commercial offices. Others from out of town who were here for the funeral were Mrs. E. C. Buck of New York city, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jefferson of Ludington, he being a brother of Mrs. Phelps, Mr. and Mrs. James Hubbard of Union City, Mrs. Lettie White of Benton Harbor, Mrs. Margaret Shears of Kalamazoo, Mr. and Mrs. Perry French of Bronson, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barnes, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reed and MR. and Mrs. Byron Johnson of Coldwater, Mich. Mr. Phelps returned to Toledo Monday and will be accompanied by is mother who goes there for a visit. Mrs. Phelps before her marriage (portion illegible), meeting Mr. Phelps there while he was station agent for the Pere Marquette. In Portland as well as in Ionia and Toledo she was greatly admired and loved, leaving many friends to regret her untimely death and who express their sincere sorrow and sympathy to the surviving family.
