Phelps passed away at the family home at 524 High street Monday morning at 3:35 after an illness covering a number of months. Mr. and Mrs. Phelps have lived in Ionia for more than 30 years, and both are well known throughout the county. Mrs. Phelps before her marriage was Miss Ida Hubbard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hubbard. She was born at Girard, in Branch county, 63 years ago the twenty-third day of November. Mr. and Mrs. Phelps spent their entire married life in and around Ionia. Mrs. Phelps had not enjoyed the best of health for a number of years, and she had failed rapidly during the past few weeks. Besides her husband, A. J. Phelps, she is survived by one son, P. Roy Phelps, of Toledo, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Bert French, of Brunson, and a brother, James Hubbard of Union City, and two grandsons, Jack and Junior Phelps of Toledo. The funeral will be held from the home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. Charles J. Kruse will conduct the service. Burial will take place in the family lot at Oak Hill cemetery.
