Phenix, 73, of Pewamo, formerly of Belding, passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 30, 2005, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice. Wayne was born on Aug. 23, 1932, in Belding, the son of James and Bertha Harper Phenix. He graduated from Belding High School and served in the Michigan National Guard. He had worked at Extruded Metals Corp., retiring in 1992. Wayne was married on July 23, 1952, in Belding to Elaine W. Tower. She preceded him in 1983. He also was preceded by his parents; and two brothers, John Phenix and Ed Phenix. On Dec. 11, 1987, he married Betty Jean Whorley in Lyons. She survives along with his son, Gary Phenix of Chippewa Lake; his stepchildren, Peggy and Randy Cherpes of Lyons, Jim and Sheri Goodman of Flint, Dennis and Bobbi Goodman of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers and their spouses, Chuck and Evelyn Phenix of Stanton, Leo and Ruth Phenix of Sheridan; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastors Ken Harger and Julie Hatch officiating. Interment will be in Otisco Township Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alvah N. Belding Library for children’s books.
