He was born in Jackson, October 9, 1921, the son of Fred and Viola (Newcomb) Philipp and was a graduate of the Jackson high School and attended Jackson Business University. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific and European theaters. He married Gwendolyn Fulton of Jackson March 7,1942 and they came to Lake Odessa in April of 1946 and he was the secretary-Treasurer of the Lake Odessa Machine Products. Mr.Philipp was a member of the United Methodist Church, Past president of the Lake Odessa Lions Club, Past president of the Lakewood school board of education, served as village clerk and on the Lake Odessa Fair Association board for several years, and was also active in other civil affairs. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Barry of Lake Odessa and Ronald of Jackson; a daughter Cynthia Sue, at home; three grand daughters; his father and a brother Berkeley, both of Jackson also his grandmother, Mr.Gertrude Newcomb of Lansing. Funeral services were held at 1:30 Saturday at the Pickens Funeral Chapel. Rev. Marvin Zimmerman officiated with burial in Lakeside cemetery.
