Belding News, 3 Jan 1907

Mrs. Edmund W. Phillips of Cook’s Corners passed away last Thursday after 
several months of ill health, aged 45 years, 4 months and 24 days.

Deceased spent her girlhood days with her parents on a farm, north of Ionia.  
In 1878 she was married to Edmund W. Phillips and since has lived in Otisco.  
Last June she was stricken with a shock of paralysis, from which she never 
entirely recovered.

Deceased leaves a husband and four children, three sons and one daughter to 
mourn their loss, besides brothers, sisters, an aged mother-in-law and hosts of 
friends.

She was a member of the Ashley Baptist church, a charter member of the 
L.O.T.M.M. and Court of Honor of this city, in good standing, a loving wife, 
kind mother and a good neighbor and true friend and all feel that they will 
throw the mantle of charity over her faults, and try to emulate her virtues.

Deceased was born in Columbia county, Ohio, came to Michigan with her parents 
in her infancy; lived in Ionia township until her marriage on New Year’s day, 
1878.

Funeral services were held at the house last Sunday, called at 1 o’clock p.m., 
but on account of the illness of her pastor, Rev. Weaver, pastor of the Ashley 
Baptist church, who was unable to be present, the services were delayed until 3 
o’clock, when Rev. A. Secord, pastor of the Congregational church of this city 
arrived to deliver the funeral discourse.  Notwithstanding the inclemency of 
the weather a large assemblage of relatives and friends were present to pay 
their last respects to one whom they respected and loved.  Interment in the 
Otisco cemetery.
