Oct. 7, 1914 PIONEER RESIDENT DIED IN HOSPITAL Edmond W. Phillips, sixty-one and a lifelong resident in this vicinity died at Dr. E.W. Litle’s private hospital last Thursday after years of suffering from locomotor ataxin. Mr. Phillips was born three miles west of Belding near the present home of Stillman Luscombe. On January 1, 1878 he was married to Jennie Foreman of Ionia Township. Five children, three of whom are now living were born to the union. Those living are Eli of this city, Willard of Ionia and Leona of Detroit. One brother, Wilson Phillips of Otisco Township also survives him. Mr. Phillips became so feeble and helpless that he was taken to Dr. Little’s hospital about eleven weeks ago for care and treatment. His daughter, Leona was his constant nurse, during the confinement there, except when she made a short visit to Detroit. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Court of Honor, in which he carried a $1000 policy. Funeral services were held at the home of Eli Phillips Friday afternoon. Interment was made in the Otisco cemetery.
