Phillips, 70, died Saturday evening at Mulliken, following a series of strokes. He was born Aug. 8, 1877 in Otisco township, south of the city, the son of William and Annette Phillips and had lived around Belding his entire life until going to Mulliken about a year ago. He was a farmer for many years , residing two miles south of the city and was also a carpenter by trade, having built many of the houses in this city. He was married Sept. 23, 1898, to Nellie Foreman, who died in 1944. To this union was born one daughter, Barbara of this city, now Mrs. Arthur Trebian, who with one adopted son, George Phillips, of Kalkaska, survive. In 1945 he married Mrs. Ida Dickerson and she is still living and cared for him in his last illness. He also leaves three grandchildren and two brothers, Charles of Sheridan and Frank of Lansing. The body was brought to the home of Mrs. Trebian, Monday and funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 o’clock at Fales-Huffman Funeral Chapel, Rev. H.S. Ellis officiating, assisted by Rev. G. Ferre, pastor of the Baptist church of which Mr. Phillips was a member. Burial was in Otisco cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Dibble, John Cartridge, Lewis Cartridge, Pete VandenBos, Ray Tillotson and Milo Towne.
