ROBERT L. PHILLIPS SR. 1930-2016
Robert L. Phillips Sr. passed away on Sept. 24, 2016. He was born on March 23, 
1930 to Walter and Irene (Hubbs) Phillips.

Robert was a member of the Greenville undefeated Varsity Football team, 
Greenville High School 1944-47; a Western Michigan University Air Bronco; a 
Mason; Portland United Methodist church building fund chairman and a member 
there for over 50 years; Portland Public School Board of Education President; 
Thornapple Valley Credit Union Board member; but most importantly, he was a 
loving, caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He married Jeanette Howell in August of 1950. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife Joyce; one daughter, Linda (Bruce) Croel of Portland; 
three sons; Robert (Dalisa) Phillips, Jr. of Portland, Michael (Sherrie) 
Phillips of Alto and Jeffrey Phillips of Almont; seven grandchildren; Andrew 
(Anne) Croel, Charissa (Chris) Shadduck, Justin (Tressa) Croel, Meghann (Chad) 
Stoike, Michael (Meredith) Phillips, Sarah Phillips and Christian Phillips; and 
12 great-grandchildren. He will be missed very much.

Service will be Thursday, Sept 29 at 11 a.m. at the Portland United Methodist 
church with Pastors Andy Croel and Tish Bowman officiating. Visitation will be 
on Wednesday Sept 28 from 4-7:30 p.m. at Lake funeral Home in Ionia. Those 
wishing may make memorial contributions to Portland United Methodist church or
