Portland Pioneer Is Buried; Service From St. Patrick's

One of Portland's real pioneer residents, Lawrence Phillips, 73, died at his 
home in village Saturday and was buried from St. Patrick's church Monday, Rev. 
W.J. O'Rourke officiating.

Mr. Phillips had been a resident of this community from birth. He had, up until 
a comparatively recent date, continued to farm. Since retiring he has lived in 
the village and was very well known there. 

He is survived by his wife, Ms. Amelia Phillips, and six children, Jacob 
Phillips, Lansing; Ms. Elizabeth Jarvis, Detroit; Mary Phillips, Battle Creek 
and Margaret, Cherry and Allen all of Portland.
