            AGED LADY PASSES AWAY LAST NIGHT

 MRS. LAWRENCE PHILLIPS SR., DIES FROM EFFECTS OF OLD AGE AND GANGRENE

Mrs.Lawrence Phillips Sr., died at the home of her son, Lawrence Phillips Jr., 
Wednesday evening, from the effects of old age and gangrene. Last March she 
suffered a stroke of apoplexy and since that time her mind had been affected, 
but it was only until a week ago that she began  to fail rapidly Mrs.Phillips' 
maiden name was Mary Ann Caroline Crist. She was born in Paris, France, but came 
to this country when she was a year and a half old. She was married about 59 
years ago to Lawrence Phillips, who also was born in France, but who later came 
to the United State.They resided in Westphalia township until about 10 years 
ago, when the husband died, and since that time the mother has made her home 
with her son.

Arrangements for the funeral services have not yet been made, but it will be 
held at St.Patrick Church and Rev. Fr.Koelzer will officiate.

There were eight children born, but only three survive, Lawrence and Frank 
Phillips of Portland and Mrs.George Yerge, of Marilla, N.Y. The surviving 
brothers are, Jacob Crist, Portland; Martin Crist, Ft.Pierce, Fla; and Lawrence 
Crist, of Lansing. Mrs.Christine Rowe, of Detroit; Mrs.Mary Birch, of Ionia; and 
Mrs.Agnes Fitch, of Portland, Oregon, are the sisters who survive.

Had she lived until May 14th next, Mrs.Phillips would have been 84 years old.
