Pickens, aged 50, wife of Clare C.Pickens died of accidental injuries Thursday evening. Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Joy 15 & Jill, 11 & two sons,Tim 17 and Tom 20. Services will be held Sunday, Interment in Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa. (Pg.40) CRASH FATAL TO WOMAN Mrs. Clare Pickens was killed Thursday in a one-car crash on M-50, about 10 miles west of Kent County's Bowne Township. Mrs. Vinton Pickens, a registered Nurse of Lake Odessa was driving her elder daughter & three other women to Grand Rapids to attend a high school basketball game. Authorities determined cause of death as skull and neck fractures. Three persons were taken to Pennock Hospital. Those were the daughter, Joy, 15, who suffered skull fracture and abrasions of both legs; Mrs. Edwin Cooley, 38, a back fracture & foot lacerations, Mrs Russell Hewitt, 45, rib fractures and head and shoulder injuries. Mrs. Rogers Eggers, 24, wife of Lake Odessa basketball coach, was treated for severe bruises & shoulder strains & released. Vinton is a native of Baldwin, lived in Grand Rapids until 1946 when she & her husband Clare moved to Lake Odessa. She graduated from Grand Rapids South High School and St. Mary's Hospital of Nursing.
