She suffered a stroke Oct. 19, 1947. She was born Christine Motzer, daughter of Fredric and Johanna Motzer, March 30, 1862, in Hanover, Conn. In 1869 she came to Ionia with her parents, and lived on North Jefferson and Bliss streets before moving to the home her father built at 407 Rice street in 1871. She lived there until her marriage Jan. 1, 1898 to William H. Pickhaver of Ontario, Canada. They left immediately for Kankakee, Ill., which was his home station as a railroad engineer on the Indiana, Illinois and Iowa railroad. They lived there for a number of years and then moved to South Bend, Ind., where he was transferred. He died there in July, 1935, and she came here to live with her sister, Bertha, and brother George Motzer. Her sister died in February, 1944, and she remained with her brother until she suffered a stroke in October, 1947, and was confined to her bed until she was removed to the Ionia Convalescent home in 1948. She was a former member of the South Bend, Ind. O.E.S. chapter and was a member for many years of the Church of Christ during the Rev. Grove’s term as pastor and for whom she worked as maid for several years. Surviving are the brother, George Motzer, and a niece, Mrs. H. R. Moulton, of South Jackson street. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Boynton funeral home. The Rev. A. R. Keuhn of the Evangelical U. B. church will officiate. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
