Pierce, 67, of Lake Odessa, died Jan. 3 at Pennock Hospital, Hastings. Born April 20, 1919, in Woodbury, he was the son of Carl and Neva Wells Pierce. He attended Woodland schools and was graduated from Lake Odessa High School in 1937. He was married to Evelyn Vietch on Oct. 28, 1939. She survives. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II and later operated a plumbing business in Lake Odessa. He later worked as a salesman for Northwest Plumbing of Detroit and then for Builders’ Plumbing Co. of Lansing, retiring in 1980. He also served as Lake Odessa village assessor, was a past president of the Lake Odessa Area Historical Society, served on the Lake Odessa Planning Commission and was a life member of the Lake Odessa VFW. He is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Deane (Sharon) Durkee of Lake Odessa; three grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Rolland Reid of Lake Odessa, and aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Koops Funeral Chapel, the Rev. George Speas officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Lake Odessa Ambulance Service, in care of the funeral home.
