For several years, Mrs. Pierce operated a millinery shop in Pewamo and was the oldest exhibitor at Ionia Free Fair baked goods for which she won many prizes and ribbons. She was also the last charter member of Pewamo Methodist church and served as historian. Born August 7, 1879, she had resided 70 years at her home on Townsend road. Her husband, Byron to whom she was married in 1895, died in May 1948. Mrs. Pierce is survived by three daughters, Mrs. William Brayton of Hubbardston, Mrs. Alfred Rowell of Mulliken and Mrs. Russell Mead of Lansing; three sons, Gordon Pierce of Milwaukee, Wis., Umbra Pierce of St. Johns, and Chancy Pierce of Comstock Park; eight grand and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Pewamo church. The Rev. Gerald Hedlund will officiate and interment will be at East Plains cemetery. The body will be at Shaw-Rivett funeral home until noon Wednesday.
