Pierce, 76, of Easton Township, Ionia, passed away Dec. 7, 1998, at Spectrum Health-East Campus in Grand Rapids. He was born the son of Glenn and Ada Blanche Pierce on May 20, 1922, in Ionia. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1941 and then served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in Greenland. He married the former Florence Gott on Dec. 30, 1943. She preceded him in death on May 21, 1990. He worked at the Michigan Reformatory in the business office. He was a member of the Lyons-Muir Church, a member of the Ionia Historical Society, a volunteer for the Ionia County Commission on aging and the Meals on Wheels Program, a member of the American Legion and a member of the Garden Club. Surviving are two sons, Robert W. (Judy) Pierce of Talent, Oregon and John W. Pierce of Ionia; one daughter, Genie (James) Moriarty of Muir; four grandchildren, Kevin and Tom Moriarty of Muir, Laura and Mary Pierce of Talent, Oregon; two sisters-in-law; Dorothy Balzell of Ionia and Linda Pappin of Clio. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alan and Max Pierce; and two sisters Reva Stebbins and Thelma Clark. Memorial Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Muir-Lyons Church, with Rev. Robert Nixon officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Ionia. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lyons-Muir Church Building Fund or the Ionia County Commission on Aging, in care of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia.
