Pierce, 85, of Lake Odessa, died Monday at his son’s residence, the Rev. Ward D. Pierce of Lake Odessa. He was born April 5, 1903 in Lapeer County the son of Loan and Verna (Hopkins) Pierce. He married Mary Frain on June 8, 1929 in Grand Rapids. She preceded him in death March 18, 1974. He lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana for most of his life. He moved to Mesick, Mich.in 1972 and to Lake Odessa in 1985. He was employed with the U.S. Royal tire company and Alter Brothers tire company for several years. He was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church, the Woodland Lion’s Club, and the Red Arrow Lodge 32nd Division. Surviving are one son, the Rev. Ward D. Pierce of Lake Odessa; one daughter, Bett Zies of Clint, Texas; two sisters, Bessie Guy and Luella Powney, both of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. One brother, Lee, preceded him in death. Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Lakewood United Methodist Church, the Rev. George Speas officiating. Burial will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Sherman-Mesick Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lakewood United Methodist Church.
